Event Description
Michelle P Brown is a cultural historian and teacher, medieval manuscript specialist and arts curator. In this illustrated lecture, she talks about her acclaimed book Bede and the Theory of Everything. Bede entered the Monkwearmouth-Jarrow monastery in Northumbria in 673, aged seven, and became the foremost scholar of his age. Among his many achievements are the foremost historical account of early Britain, the term ‘England’, our unified dating system, the first tide timetables, the earliest English poetry and translation of part of the Bible into English.
