FALMOUTH SOUL SENSATION

Benefit gig in aid of Man Down UK

It is 17 years since the Falmouth Soul Sensation was formed by music impresario Bob Black, and started playing the best of classic 60’s soul music to enthusiastic audiences all around Cornwall.  Their performances feature the greatest hits from Aretha, Sam and Dave, Otis, Dusty, Wilson Pickett and many others!

This will be the twelfth benefit the band has played at the Penzance Acorn, and these events have raised some £10,000 for local charities.  This has become an annual feature of the Acorn’s new year calendar, and the band are thrilled to be returning to their favourite venue in west Cornwall!

This year the benefit is in aid Man Down.  Man Down UK is a non-profit Community Interest Company originating in Cornwall.  They provide informal peer-support talking groups all over the UK for men with mental health concerns.  The work towards ending this stigma and reduce the number of male suicides.

The band regularly plays to packed audiences all over Cornwall and have been booked back to almost everywhere it has played.  Appearances include the opening event for Falmouth Carnival for over a decade, Looe Festival for six consecutive years, St Just’s Lafrowda festival, Penzance’s Golowan, Penryn Fayre, Redruth’s Murdoch Day and Falmouth Princess Pavilion, plus support for Cornwall performances of The Three Degrees and Geno Washington.  The band has released an album, on CD and Vinyl, called ‘Soul from the Archive’.

This event will brighten up the gloom of January for music lovers of all ages.  Expect a lively evening of non-stop dancing, or just sit back in the balcony and enjoy!

Early booking is advised as the event usually sells out.  Tickets are £12 in advance, £15 on the door, concessions (income support, disability allowance, student card only) £10.  Available from the Acorn Box Office or www.theacornpenzance.com.
