Event Description

This show will consist two acts, the first being called Seven Lamps and the second being called Solo Flight. Both peices are for non-tuned percussion and sampled sound.

Ged Kingsford started playing drums at the age of ten after seeing the Duke Ellington orchestra with Ella Fitzgerald as vocalist. This fateful evening made such an impression that he had little choice but to beg, borrow, or steal any drums he could get his hands on. Growing up in Stockport, he immersed himself in the local music scene, eventually supporting major rock acts in Manchester during his late teens.

At twenty, he made the leap to London, successfully auditioning for the Svante Garde rock band Metabolist, earning recognition on John Peel and in the music press. However, his association with literature, possessing a copy of Bronte’s “Jane Eyre,” led to his expulsion from the band.

Moving on in social disgrace but undeterred, Ged’s career flourished as a versatile percussionist, collaborating with diverse artists across genres and mediums, including theatre, TV and radio. During a period in France, he worked with a choreographer from a New York dance company and collaborated with Romanian gypsies alongside performance artists in street theatre presentations.

His Symphony In Cut Glass, born from performances at the Tate Gallery honouring Barbara Hepworth, graced the Acorn Theatre in 2018. Now, Ged is embarking on a new musical venture, diving into the blues scene with an upcoming rehearsal for a fresh ensemble. The lineup features acoustic guitar, vocals, double bass, 5-string electric guitar, and Ged himself on percussion alongside a female vocalist. Excitement brews as details for their debut show emerge, promising an evening split into two captivating halves titled “Seven Lamps” and “Solo Flight.”

His ultimate goal? Breaking down barriers, both artistic and social, by welcoming people from all corners of the percussion world to share in the magic of live music. Shows consist of acoustic drums and percussion plus electronic pads against a background of sampled sounds to create virtuosity and dynamics atmospheric soundscapes.
