River of Stars, Georgina Moore in conversation with Patrick Gale

Georgina Moore’s debut novel, The Garnett Girls, was a Sunday Times bestseller. She talks to Patrick Gale about River of Stars, her latest book, which he describes as: “Romantic, sexy, bittersweet”. Georgina says it is her love letter to the River Thames and was inspired by the colourful history of another island upstream from Eel Pie Island where she lives.

The novel is set on Walnut Tree Island, steeped in bohemia and music legend, and home to a thriving community of artists and musicians. It is where teenager Mary Star once caught the eye of a rock star about to hit the big time, only to be left with a new baby and a broken heart. Years later, Mary lives on the houseboat where she raised her daughter and her granddaughter, Jo. But now one of the island’s prodigal sons has returned. Oliver Greenwood has inherited Walnut Tree and changes are coming.
