Event Description

Subtitled ‘The Star Robbed of England Glory’, The Lion Who Never Roared is the incredible story of Jack Leslie, the first black player in the Football League when he was called up for play for his country in 1925 – only to be dropped due to the colour of his skin. Jack played 400 games for Plymouth Argyle FC, scoring 137 goals, before later joining the support team at West Ham United in Bobby Moore’s heyday. This heart-breaking but inspiring biography is the first full-length book by the writer and radio and TV producer Matt Tiller, and includes a foreword from Viv Anderson, the first black player to win a full England cap – in 1978.

This event is held at The Acorn Theatre.
