Event Description
The Scene of the Crime, with Denise Mina
Described as “crime-writing royalty” by Val McDermid and a key figure in the rise of Tartan Noir, Denise Mina joins us on the final evening of the 2025 LitFest. Best known for the Garnethill trilogy, the Paddy Meehan and the Alex Morrow series, she has also turned her hand to historic and graphic novels. Along the way, these have gained her the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award twice, the McIlvanney Prize for Scottish Crime Book of the Year twice and the Gordon Burn Prize. She was inducted into the Crime Writers’ Association Hall of Fame in 2014.
In her most recent published novel, The Second Murderer, Denise stepped into the shoes of Raymond Chandler to bring readers a thrilling new Philip Marlowe story. In her forthcoming book, The Good Liar, she delves into the world of forensic examination and introduces a new protagonist, blood spatter expert Professor Claudia O’Sheil. Join Denise as she discusses both books and takes us behind the scenes of a prolific writing career spanning not only crime, historical and graphic novels but also work for theatre, radio and television.
