Event Description

Cornwall UK Singer-songwriters Elisabeth Freeborn and Amy Woodburn formed the band in 2020 to offer a musical response to the plight of people and planet and were later joined by multi-instrumentalist Ashley Height and drummer Matt Griffiths.

Since their debut, Wake the River has been featured in FATEA Magazine and been live in session on Radio X with John Kennedy. Regulars on BBC Introducing, RTÉ Radio 1 (Lilian Smith), Amazing Radio, and Absolute Radio (Frank Skinner), Wake the River surpassed 50K streams for their previous single Sapphire.

Wake the River has played a number of prominent venues and events, including The Bedford in London, The Minack Theatre, and The Eden Project, as well as festivals in their home county of Cornwall.

Freeborn and Woodburn had childhoods rich in sixties folk, rock, and classical music. Jazz drummer Griffiths has a distinctively tactile playing style, and guitarist and percussionist Height adds his knowledge of folk styles and grooves from around the world to the sonic mix.

Wake the River spans multiple generations in their ages and influences yet retains a fresh flavour with delicate, stand-out lead vocals from Freeborn, sensitive instrumentation, and dynamic songwriting from both Woodburn and Freeborn.

Tom Adams

Combining enveloping minimalism with a spellbinding falsetto, songwriter/producer Tom Adams conveys immense emotion utilizing just a few elements. Masterfully balancing tactile acoustic and electronic instruments, Adams’ music is as expansive as it is elegantly peculiar – evoking cinematic odes to nature’s majesty and the divergent depths of the human condition. Receiving accolades for his wide-ranging output of synth-guided exploits, chamber pop, melancholic piano-ambient works, and moody film scores
