Event Description
Jane Johnson’s last book, White Hare, was set in 1950s’ Cornwall. Her latest, The Black Crescent, takes us to Morocco in the same period and was picked as one of the best historical novels of 2023 by the Sunday Times. Through the eyes of a young Berber policeman Hamou Badi, Jane vividly tells the story of the country’s fight for independence and his struggles with murder, magic and divided loyalties.
Jane has worked in the book industry for 30 years as a bookseller, publisher and writer, including publishing the works of JRR Tolkien and writing the official visual companions for Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film trilogy. She splits her time between Cornwall and Morocco, and still works remotely as a Fiction Publishing Director for HarperCollins.
